Abstract:
The current study aimed to identify from the point of View of female teachers
in the State of Kuwait the factors that lead to the reluctance of primary school
learners to read. To achieve this, the researcher prepared a questionnaire to
identify the opinions of female teachers in the primary stage about the factors
that lead to the reluctance of learners to read. The questionnaire was divided
into four dimensions, i.e. the educational and social factors, Factors, family
factors and personal factors. The analysis of results was based on arithmetic
means, percentages of means and analysis of variance. The results showed
that the item that states that the textbook is sufficient and makes it the only
source of learning in the educational factors dimension ranked first with a
score of 80%.18. As for the dimension related to social factors, it ranked first
in the item that states that” the society in which the individual lives does not
care much about freedom of reading with books” with a rate of 77.2%, while
it ranked first in the dimension. Among the individual family factors, it states
that the family environment does not encourage reading in leisure time by
75%. It ranked first in the dimension of individual personal factors, which
states that learners are satisfied with the information provided by the teacher
at a rate of 91.66%, that personal factors are the most factors that lead to
reluctance learners about reading.
