Abstract:
The study aimed to determine the knowledge level of the frst cycle students
of basic education in the Sultanate of Oman regarding the emerging corona
virus (COVID 19( pandemic in light of some variables. The researchers used
the descriptive approach with a study sample consisting of (2083( students
from the fourth grade in the governorates of Muscat and Al-Dakhiliya in the
Sultanate of Oman.
To reveal the students' knowledge of the pandemic, a test was prepared,
consisting of two domains: general knowledge of the nature of the corona
virus (COVID 19( and knowledge of methods of prevention and handling
when infected with the virus. The test validity was verifed by presenting it
to several judges and its reliability was checked using internal consistency
method by calculating the Cronbach Alpha coeffcient, which reached (0.84).
In addition, an individual interview was conducted with 20 students after
completing the application of the test.
The results of the study indicated that the knowledge level of the frst cycle
students of basic education in the Sultanate of Oman about the emerging
corona virus (COVID 19( - in general - was good. The results also showed that
there were statistically signifcant differences in the variable of the educational
governorate in the domain of general knowledge of the nature of the emerging
corona virus (COVID 19( in favor of the students of the governorate of AlDakhiliya. The study concluded with a number of recommendations and
suggestions.
