Abstract:
The aim of this study was to identify patterns of social media use and its
relationship to social competence among by a sample of female students in the
Intermediate Level of Education in the Kingdom of Bahrain and to identify
the differences in the use of these means according to grade level. In order
to achieve these objectives, the study employed the analytical descriptive
approach. Two measures were used by the researchers to collect the data:
the Scale of Social Media Use and the Scale of Social Competence. The
instruments were applied on a randomly selected sample of 240 intermediate
school students at the stage of adolescence. The study results found a number
of results, the most important of which was the second-grade students were
the group that most frequently used means of social media, and that there was
a negative signifcant correlation between students' use of social media and
social competence.
