Abstract:
This research paper aimed to examine the effectiveness of teaching based on
mathematical communication in developing the achievement of some concepts
of coordinate, transformational geometry, and mathematics motivation for
ninth grade students. The study adapted semi-experimental approach to a
randomly selected sample of 55 ninth graders. The control group consisted
of 28 students who were taught in the traditional way while the experimental
group consisted of 27 students who were taught using teaching based on
mathematical communication. Both groups were evaluated using coordinate
plane and geometry transformations achievement test, and the mathematics
motivation questionnaire. To ensure the same teaching experience, both
groups were taught by the same teacher. A teaching program was designed
and applied. The study concluded that teaching based on mathematical
communication was effective in improving student's achievement in the
specifc concepts and their mathematics motivation. The study recommended
organizing training courses and workshops and providing online educational
platforms for teaching based on mathematical communication. Also, teachers
should include teaching activities that increase the motivation for achievement
in mathematics.
