dc.description.abstract | The study aimed to find out the factors affecting the first level students of the Faculty of Commerce and Economics, University of Sana’a to choose their scientific areas of specializations, through a questionnaire distributed to them. This questionnaire was randomly administered to 426 male and female students. The study focused on academic factors related to the nature of the curriculum of study, skills of faculty members who teach the students, educational attainment in the first level, factors related to the profession, the future trends in the labor market, and the role of the family. The study found a number of findings. The major ones are that most of the respondents will specialize in accounting. The order of the factors that have an impact on the students’ selection of scientific specialization is the future career and job security in the future, then the influence of their course professors and the content of the curriculum, followed by the role of the family and friends as well as their academic achievements in the first level. The study recommended the colleges and the scientific departments to pay attention to the students’ interests. Moreover, the concerned governmental authorities should coordinate between them along with the businessmen in the country to put an educational policy, plans, programs and curricula as to meet students’ attitudes to the disciplines that have jobs and demands by the labor market. | en_US |
