Abstract:
Arabic traditional dictionaries such as as-sihāh, al qāmūs al-Muhīt and lisān al-cArab
consider four–letter words beninning with cayn as cibīd and cusfūr as originally four–letter
words. Therefore, in these cases the initial cayn is seen? original?. Similarly cartam and
cibīd measure as faclal and ficlīl respectively.
This study aims at proving that cayn is? assitional? and thus cartam is derived as ratama
and cibīd as rabada.
