Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of the difference of the symbolic system in instructional software on third-grade students, achievement in science. The sample of the study consisted of (62) male and female students from Bushra Secondary School. The sample of the study was divided into four groups consisting of 16, 15, 16 and 15 students. The respective groups were distributed into the following treatment groups: audio and animated pictures, audio and still pictures, text and animated pictures, and text and still pictures. The results of the study revealed that there were statistically significant differences (a = 0.05) in the achievement of third-graders due to treatment; these are as follows: -There were statistically significant differences between the means of Text and Animated Pictures group compared with Text and Still Pictures group favoring to Text and Animated Pictures group. - There were statistically significant differences between the means of Sound and Steady Pictures group compared with Text and Still Pictures group favoring to Sound and Steady Pictures group. - There were statistically significant differences between the means of Sound and Animated Pictures group compared with the remaining three groups favoring to Sound and Animated Pictures group. In the light of the above results, the researchers recommended conducting similar studies in other areas and on larger samples.
