Loneliness among Physically Handicapped Individuals in Irbid Governorate, Jordan

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the feeling of loneliness among physically handicapped individuals in Irbid Governorate, and to explore the relationship between the feeling of loneliness and gender, marital status, level of handicapped, and work. To achieve this purpose, Yarmouk University Questionnaire for Feeling Loneliness (Haddad & Sawalmah, 1998) was used in this study. A sample of 238 physically handicapped individuals completed the questionnaire. The results revealed that the degree of feeling loneliness was moderate. It was also revealed that there were statistically significant differences due to physically handicapped individuals’ level of handicapped; moreover, the study revealed that there were nonstatistically significant differences due to physically handicapped individuals’ gender, marital status, and work. In light of the study results, some recommendations were suggested.
