dc.description.abstract At the tertiary level, skimming has been viewed as either an essential reading skill or dismissed as a skill too basic to be taught. As an exploratory study, this paper looks at theoretical conceptions of skimming, examines studies dealing with skimming as a reading skill and strategy, usage of skimming in reading academic texts as well as skimming while reading on the Internet to assess its relevance and to offer suggestions for its teaching at the tertiary level. en_US
