The Effectiveness of Collective Guidance Program in Reducing Stigma Among Juvenile Delinquents in Jordan

Abstract

The present study aimed to measure the effectiveness of group guidance program in reducing stigma among Juvenile delinquents. To achieve the objective of the study ,a measure stigma among juvenile delinquents used , which the researcher developed based on previous literature, in addition to the development of the guidance program consists of eleven demonstration session, based on the techniques of rational treatment of emotional behavioral ”REBT“. The study sample consisted of 30 juvenile offenders between the ages of 15-18 years who were chosen from juvenile delinquents institutions in Jordan. the sample was split randomly into two equal group , experimental group and a control group , each group has a 15 juvenile delinquents . Pre-testing was performed for the two groups. The experimental group was exposed to the group guidance program, while the control group did not receive any training. The study results showed statistically significant differences in the significance level 0.05=α between the experimental group and the control group on each of the post-test and test follow-up to reduce the stigma among juvenile delinquents. The study concluded that the group guidance training program that was based on rational-emotional behavioral therapy ”REBT“ had positive impact on the stigma. The study also concluded with a number of recommendations, including further research on juvenile offenders, the use of rational treatment of emotional behavioral ”REBT“ method for the treatment of juvenile delinquents problems.
