The Development of the Unitary Thinking of Muhibul – Deen Al-Khatib A study on the Editorials of Al-Asima Newspaper and Al-Fath Journal

Abstract

This study tackles the concept of Arab unity in the perspective of Muhibul-Deen Al- Khatib (1886-1969). He was one of the most prominent figures of the Arab movement during the first half of the twentieth century, who started his life in Damascus to end up in Cairo, traveling from Istanbul to Hijaz. This travel came as a result of the political standings that he held and the nature of the tasks he embarked on as a writer or an editorin- chief of a paper or a journal, or during his membership in political societies and parties. The study also attempts to shed a light on Al-Khatib personality, the development of his unitary thinking and the political and intellectual transformations that he experienced and expressed in his writings. he study relays on the editorials of Al-Asimah newspaper that was issued in the era of the Arab Government in Damascus, in addition to Al-Fath journal, established by Al- Khatib in Cairo. The study of these editorials is meant to examine the phases and changes of the unitary thinking of Al-Khatib, and tend to enlighten the political and intellectual environment in which he lived, beside his contributions in establishing political and intellectual societies. The study ends up with an analysis of the discourse and conceptions of unity
