The Effect of Reaction time and Fatigue on Bady Image Among University Students who are Obese and Normal

Abstract

The main aim of the present study is to explore the effect of reaction time and fatigue on bady image among University students who are obese and normal. The sample of )528( individual aged between 17 and 50 years )M =21.9 years, SD =4.07 years). The following tools were used: a) the Reaction Time Tests (RTT); b) the Body Image Scale (BIS); c) the Multidimensional Fatigue Scale (MFS); d) body mass index (BMI). The results show that there were significant differences between the experimental group (obese) and the control group (normal) in reaction time, body image and fatigue, with a higher score occurring among the experimental group. There were no significant differences between obese males and females in reaction time and fatigue, while there were significant differences between obese males and females in body image, with a higher score occurring among female. There is a positive correlation significant between BMI and the following variables: body image, total degree of fatigue and its following dimensions: general fatigue, emotional fatigue, physical fatigue, behavioral fatigue, and cognitive fatigue. There are no correlations between BMI and reaction time. The overall degree of fatigue is a strong predictor of body image followed by a body mass index.
