Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of tribal competition anxiety among the professional football players in the Palestinian League. The aim of the study was also to identify the impact of the study variables on the levels of tribal competition anxiety among professional football players in the Palestinian League. To achieve the aim of the study a questionnaire was prepared and the coefficient of its constancy was verified. After the data collection process, the data were encoded and processed statistically using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences )SPSS(. The current study sample consisted of 61 football players in the Palestinian professional league. Results revealed that the levels of anxiety before the athletic competition among football players in the Palestinian professional league were medium, and that no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α =0.05( were found according to the estimates of the sample. From the players’ viewpoints, the levels of anxiety before the athletic competition among football players in the Palestinian professional league were attributed to many variables such as the place of residence, the center of play, the experience and the player. The most important recommendations made by the researcher are the need to work on developing the skills of self-restraint and overcome the anxiety of the football players to strengthen their psychological abilities. Further studies could be conducted to identify the relationship between the levels of anxiety and the performance of the players.
