dc.description.abstract In this paper an attempt is made to explore the influence of the epistemological paradigm on linguistic studies. The researcher is of the view that the rationalistic mode of thought that dominated Islamic scholarship has had far reaching impacts on the way studies in linguistics were undertaken, thus, the idea of conventionality of language has been advocated by the mainstream of Muslim scholars on the basis of mere theoretical arguments borrowed from other fields such as theology and fikh. They should have applied suitable methods to approach linguistic issues. Therefore, we shall try to discuss the issue of Metaphor as the embodiment of the problem at hand. en_US
